Hello Poetry People!
In two of his movies, Laurence Fishbourne reads this poem...
You know the jungle creed
say the stongest feed
on any prey it can
and I was branded beast
at every feast
before I ever became a man.
There is another part he recites in "Deep Cover". I don't know if it is part of the same poem as above...
where junkies prowl
and tigers growl
in search of that much needed blow
winos cringe
on canned heat binge
and find their graves in the snow.
Thank you so much for any help you can give. I have recently read the first part, and can't find the book. This is driving me crazy!
Thanks,
Anna
Dear Anna,
I think what he read were RAP SONG lyrics. I found this much...
Jungle Creed
You forget your animal heritage.
The Jungle Creed States:
The Strongest Feed On Anything They Can;
And at the feast, I was branded beast before man...

This has a link to an album by rapper Ice-T which includes the song "Jungle Creed." A visit to a well-stocked music store should be all you need to confirm this.
I THINK IT'S FABULOUS THAT RAP LYRICS HAVE MADE IT ONTO EMULE!!! THERE IS SUCH POETRY THERE, AND I HAVE BEEN SHAMEFULLY IGNORANT OF IT FOR MUCH TOO LONG.
me too, the aggressiveness has so far always put me off. But I saw the film 'save the last dance' the other day and that made me understand it a bit better. Although I still don't like the music.
The thing about it is that we, a friend and I, have found this jungle creed in many songs, etc. Where did it come from?
this poem
"where junkies prowl and tigers growl in search of that much needed blow winos cringe on" is not a song and if you saw the movie deep cover then thats where it came from.i'm trying to find the full version of the poem it goes on about drugs like polluted blood. it talks about pcp meth cocain and idk what else
Where tigers growl.
Where beggars prowl.
In search of that much needed blow.
Where winos cringe
On a can heap binge
And find their graves in the snow.
Where ice flows through veins.
Where they float over planes.
Grasping for the grass which lies low.
Where druggies snort
White lines so short
And taunt the doubtful without sorrow.
Where dust forms lines.
Where angels in time
Sing their song of sorrow.
Where dusters lust
For a touch of that dust
And the only crystals they know.
Where dopers stray.
To a needle they pray
To give them an ounce of warm glow.
Where they shoot themselves
Full of elves,
Fairy demons and spirits from below.
Where acid rages
In rock cages
And red, polluted rivers flow.
Where thunder moans
Startling stones
Causing them to huddle low.
Where every icy breath
Exhausts impending death
And the stony walls are hollow.
The castle of white
Stands proud tonight
Knowing it will win the war.
