There's a long discussion, with MANY poems shared and suggested, right on this forum.

Look below for a thread called "Suicide poems."

Thanks sirren, but most of our readers write their own depressing poems.

For a slightly different slant on depression, try Sick Minds by W H Davies and 2Children also get depressed" which I think is by Lindsay McCrae (someone else can probably confimrm that ). There's also a very good poem describing depression as sitting on a glass floor only you can see through, with horrible things below. Can't remember any more, so can't find it - but I probably got it from e-mule quite a while ago.

Euthanasia is a form of suicide, so look this over. Got more in the same vein
if you wish. Lemme know.

You can say that I suffered too much
And the doctors gave up with a shrug
While Suzy my better half
Reach down and pulled the plug.

They layed me on the embalmers table
And drained me of my vital juices.
They also cut out my heart, liver and spleen
For they have some other good ses.

The whoosh was the wind beneath your cheeks
as sure as the earth shall inherit the meeks
you reaped what you sow
when you let that one go
and we've had some complaints from the Greeks

Katrina's post is a slighly different version of a poem I have as written by Robert Browning Hamilton:

I walked a mile with Pleasure
She chattered all the way
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.
I walked a mile with Sorrow
And ne'er a word said she
But oh the things I learned from her
When sorrow walked with me.

My source was a magazine clipping, probably sometime in the 1960s - 1970s

don't ask why...
because in the end no one understands....
and until we meet again...to greet
and say Hi....
don't ask why...
just say goodbye...
and in the end...
it all comes down to why...

It's kinda hard with you not around
Know you in heaven smilin down
Watchin us while we pray for you
Every day we pray for you
Till the day we meet again
In my heart is where I'll keep you friend
Memories give me the strength I need to proceed
Strength I need to believe
My thoughts Big I just can't define
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Thinkin of the day, when you went away
What a life to take, what a bond to break
I'll be missing you

Passover (Ian Curtis)

This is a crisis I knew had to come,
Destroying the balance I'd kept.
Doubting, unsettling and turning around,
Wondering what will come next.
Is this the role that you wanted to live?
I was foolish to ask for so much.
Without the protection and infancy's guard,
It all falls apart at first touch.

Watching the reel as it comes to a close,
Brutally taking its time,
People who change for no reason at all,
It's happening all of the time.
Can I go on with this train of events?
Distrubing and purging my mind,
back out of my duties, when all's said and done,
I know that I'll lose every time.

Moving along in our God given ways,
Safety is sat by the fire,
Sancutary from these feverish smiles,
Left with a mark on the door,
Is this the gift that I wanted to give?
Forgive and forget's what they teach,
Or pass through the deserts and wasteland once more,
And watch as they drop by the beach.

This is the crisis I knew had to come,
Destroying the balance I'd kept,
Turning around to the next set of lives,
Wondering what will come next.

I feel I'm on a sinking ship,
I feel it sinking fast.
I climb up to the highest point,
And I'm clinging to the mast.

I have no crew to speak of,
And treasures, I have none.
I'm all alone on this island,
With one bullet in my gun.

Hopelessness surrounds me,
Despair my only friend.
I have wounds that will not heal,
And tears that will not mend.

I do not fear the thoughts,
That occur inside my head.
I am not suicidal,
I only wish that I were dead.

Dave Sterenchock (C) 2004

i love poems and when people decide to pour the feelings out by writing poems that shows you something... its awesome i love it it makes you realize and say wow im not the only one...

my mom and dad love to fight
but thats about to end tonight
suicialdal is the only thing ... i wont see them fight as they watch me bleed and bleed and bleed.... as they watch i atart to pray to let slowly go further and further away... as i start to fall asleep i look at mom its time to go to sleep.....

i can write poems but i have to think about it most of the time.... but i try to make good poems but your poem was good....

Here's one for Natalie:

The Suicide
-- Louis MacNeice

And this, ladies and gentlemen, whom I am not in fact
Conducting, was his office all those minutes ago,
This man you never heard of. These are the bills
In the intray, the ash in the ashtray, the grey memoranda stacked
Against him, the serried ranks of the box-files, the packed
Jury of his unanswered correspondence
Nodding under the paperweight in the breeze
From the window by which he left; and here is the cracked
Receiver that never got mended and here is the jotter
With his last doodle which might be his own digestive tract
Ulcer and all or might be the flowery maze
Through which he had wandered deliciously till he stumbled
Suddenly finally conscious of all he lacked
On a manhole under the hollyhocks. The pencil
Point had obviously broken, yet, when he left this room
By catdrop sleight-of-foot or simple vanishing act,
To those who knew him for all that mess in the street
This man with the shy smile has left behind
Something that was intact.

Let me die

There she sits so helpless
Just waiting for that special day
The day she set aside
When she'll take her life away
Up until that day
She'll screw her life up more
Taking all the drugs
And cutting like before
Stories of her messed up life
Are written on her skin
Keeping count of all the times
The knife just tends to win
Scarlet scars upon her wrists
Tell of all the times
She tried to go but something
Stopped her suicidal crimes
Her blood shot eyes tell of all
The countless times she's cried
She has no more tears to cry
So her end she will decide
As that day comes around
When her 'precious' life she'll take
She'll bring up all the pain inside
And one more cut she'll make
Never will she stop to think
Of all the people she will miss
You can call it 'ignorance'
But ignorance is bliss
As she starts to think about
The story of her life
She wants to end it faster
Just to end all her strife
She curls up in the corner
And she begins to cry
All the while voices whisper
Just f u c k ing go and die
Mascara tears leak from her eyes
And stain her pale, white face
Trailing down her satin cheeks
Depression's line they trace
She sinks her nails down in her arm
As she begins to shake
Substituting physical pain
For the pain from her heart ache
As she slowly falls apart
She starts to crave her blade
She takes it out and wastes no time
To add to the cuts she's made
She drags the blade along her skin
As she watches the blood pour out
She feels control run through her body
And the voices cease to shout
She puts away her razor blade
With no sign of regret
She knows that she will do it again
For the pain she can't forget
As she starts to breathe again
And her shaking finally stops
Her weak and fragile body goes
To her bed and drops
Her eyes begin to slowly close
As she thinks about that day
Where all her struggles end as soon
As she takes her life away

Amanda where did you get that poem, its like exactly like one i wrote like 2 years ago. try being original and writing your own.

That Day
By: Electra
There she sits so helpless
Waiting for the day
When she’ll take her life away

Up until that day
She’ll screw her life up more
Taking all the drugs
And cutting like before

Stories of her messed up life

Keeping count of all the times
The knife just tends to win

Scars upon her wrists
Tell of all the times
She tried to go but something
Stopped her suicidal crimes

Her blood shoot eyes tell of all
The countless times she’s cried
She has no more tears to cry
She just wants to die

And as that day comes around
When her life she will take
She’ll bring up all the pain inside
And one more cut she’ll make

Never will she stop to think
