Hi All,
Al Angeloro was on WNBC radio Sunday nights. Every Halloween he would play a poem (recited by the author?). The poem was about an old man who came from the future. He goes back in time (the present) to talk to a young man about "the war that's coming. The war that nobody's going to win", that he and the young man should go together to warn the world about the war. The young man being ultimately convinced that the old man really is from the future has a question for him. If he (the old man) is from the future, then in present time there would be his younger self. Did the old man ever try to find his younger self? The old man replies in effect -why do you think I came to you?- As it slowly dawns on the young man...
""God Almighty!" I said"
"Who in all this world could I count on, if not on you?"
""God Almighty!" I said again"
It seems to me the poem ends there, that's the last line. Does anyone else remember, or have suggestions how I might track the poem down?
thanks for your help.
