Honey-Moon Quote

Can anyone help with this - found in Poldark novel ( The Miller's Dance by Winston Graham p 326) -

And now their honey-moon that late was clear
Doth pale, obscure and tenebrous appear
And thrusting forth her hornes, did plaine bewray,
That some are Cuckolds on their wedding day.

I thought 'tenebrous' would make it easy to find, as it's such an unusual word - but Google and my Quotations Dictionaries have failed me.

First 2 lines were in Poldark novel, next pair added on 8 June 2010, when kindly supplied by Nigel Rees.

Hi Marian

I've found a reference in the OED to this as first appearing in Breton Cornucopia 1612 - but I don't have any of Breton's work to check it out I'm afraid.

Hope you are well.

Stephen

Thanks Stephen - it's a start - I'll try the library! I'm fine - hope you are too. Still living in rented accommodation in Nuneaton with a house we can't sell in Yorkshire, but about to rent it out and buy a house here - seems to take for ever. Can't wait to get all my furniture in one place (the rented house is very small compared to the one we lived in) and a proper garden again.

It's a pity poor old e-mule Lost Quotes and General Forums seem to be so little used these days - I pop in now and again, but not many messages appear. I expect it's all the probems with accessing it etc, everyone has gone somewhere else - I wonder where? Does the Homework forum do any better, do you know? - it's not one I've ever visited much.

Looks to me like all of the forums are pretty much defunct now, with just the odd visitor.
The exception is the spammers. They have spoilt it, put people off: and the owners of emule are not interested in reinstating the monitors who used to drive spammers away by deleting their stuff.
Sign of the times, and very sad.

I have 2 more lines, below, and the prospect of more...

And thrusting forth her hornes, did plaine bewray,
That some are Cuckolds on their wedding day.

Will try to edit these into the original quote.

When they create this stuffs, they don't think of the way of installing it. You must work hard to make better changes in the future. That's why they got a problem in that step. free online advertising |jobs|hospital beds
