A Poem I think is called The White Ship. The only line I remember is:
"The Prince and all his fellowship are gone down in the White Ship"
It's by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. You can find the full text here. [www.rossettiarchive.org]
Thanks so much, I'm delighted to have the poem.

I'm looking for a poem from a childcraft book. I think it's entitled "Pussywillow". Here are the lines I remember from it:
They call them pussywillows but there's no cat to see
Just the little furry toes that stick out on the tree
There must have been whole pussycats where just the toes stuck through
And every spring it worries me
I cannot ever find those willow cats who ran away and left their toes behind.
THE WILLOW CATS --Margaret Widdemer
They call them pussy-willows,
But there's no cat to see
Except the little furry toes
That stick out on the tree:
I think that very long ago,
When I was just born new,
There must have been whole pussy-cats
Where just the toes stick through----
And every Spring it worries me,
I cannot ever find
Those willow-cats that ran away
And left their toes behind!
This is a 12-line poem, with new lines at capital letters and punctuation. For some reason the site isn't formatting properly, it just loses the line breaks when you post. Annoyingly you can no longer write your post, then sign in and go back a couple of screens to post what you'd already written, which I used to find useful. Could someone please reverse these "improvements".

Ah Marian. Didn'cha know? Improvements can never be reversed .....................
Marian if you edit those 'improved' posts by putting
< pre > [but without the gaps] before the text that has lost the line breaks
and < / pre > [but without the gaps] after [maybe needs to be on the next line]
the line breaks will restore.
We probably need to use these formating instructions for posted poems from now on.
Thanks to Peter for this info.

Thanks Ian
Since the recent long hack the poems have been reformatted with the right line endings - or some hero has gone to inordinate lengths to reformat them as you suggested - I'm about to discover whether I can do my late signing in again, too.
Yippee!!!!- it worked - "improvements" can be reversed, after all.
I love 'The Willow Cats' poem. Thanks Marian for posting it because I hadn't heard it in a while. You guys are great for knowing all these poems. I wish I could remember them all off the top of my head too.
Hayley
Hi Hayley
You're very welcome. As to remembering all the poems of the top of my head - I only wish I could - actually I have a relational database indexing over 5000 poems in various books and binders, a large bookcase to keep the books and binders in - and also a bit of a memory for odd lines with unusual phrases in them and where they might be - mostly it's all done with computers and graft!!
Best wishes for 2010
Marian
