Been trying to think of this for years!

HiEveryone,
This has been driving me crazy for years...

I studied a poem at school, which I loved, but I've forgotten nearly all the details about it and now I just remember the impact it had on me, along with the following:

- It was written from the perspective of a man in love with a woman. However, the very reason he loved her was for her free spirit. The point being he could never have her as to keep hold of her would be to destroy the thing he most loves about her
- The poem included some butterfly imagery
- There was a line about her being 'half uncovered' by her dress (specifically 'uncovered' as opposed to 'covered')
- It was written by a poet with very similar first name and surname. Along the lines of John Johnson or Richard Richardson, or David Davies!

I would be so grateful for anyone who could shed some light...

Many thanks,
Hayley

Hi Les, thank you for your reply. I had tried that but unfortunately I don't think the butterfly element in the poem I'm looking for is enough of a theme to mean it would show up in that list...

I doubt I'll be able to find the poem for you Hayley, but someone else might if you can narrow the field a bit.

Where and when were you at school?

Was the poem in a school poetry book?

Approximately how long was it?

Can you remember any other words or phrases in it?

Ian
