Does anyone know about this poem? Little Flo writes to God about her new baby sibling's lack of teeth.........My mom used to recite it to me when I was a youngster but she can't remember how it goes.
Thanks,
Marty

Dear God, the baby you brought us is awful nice and sweet
But 'cause you forgot his toofies, the poor little thing can't eat
That's why I'm writing this letter, on purpose to let you know
Please come and finish the baby. That's all - from little Flo

and a bonus
.

I wish I'd looked after me teeth
Pam Ayres

Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth,
And spotted the perils beneath,
All the toffees I chewed,
And the sweet sticky food,
Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth.

I wish I'd been that much more willin'
When I had more tooth there than fillin'
To pass up gobstoppers,
From respect to me choppers
And to buy something else with me shillin'.

When I think of the lollies I licked,
And the liquorice allsorts I picked,
Sherbet dabs, big and little,
All that hard peanut brittle,
My conscience gets horribly pricked.

My Mother, she told me no end,
"If you got a tooth, you got a friend"
I was young then, and careless,
My toothbrush was hairless,
I never had much time to spend.

Oh I showed them the toothpaste all right,
I flashed it about late at night,
But up-and-down brushin'
And pokin' and fussin'
Didn't seem worth the time... I could bite!

If I'd known I was paving the way,
To cavities, caps and decay,
The murder of fiIlin's
Injections and drillin's
I'd have thrown all me sherbet away.

So I lay in the old dentist's chair,
And I gaze up his nose in despair,
And his drill it do whine,
In these molars of mine,
"Two amalgum," he'll say, "for in there."

How I laughed at my Mother's false teeth,
As they foamed in the waters beneath,
But now comes the reckonin'
It's me they are beckonin'
Oh, I wish I'd looked after me teeth.

I was wondering if you have found the author of Flo's Letter? I cannot seem to find anything on it, and would greatly appreciate any information you could give to me. Thanks so much, Angela

No author known, I'm afraid, Angela.
There's a longer version of the poem here:

I used to recite this to my daughter when she was young too! It's by Annie Miriam Coney - hope that helps!

We know the whole poem in our family, as our mum used to recite it all her life to us

We all loved it

My auntie will provide us with the wording and we will post it

It begins

A sweet little baby bruvver
Has come to visit Flo

Then ................. he is placed at the table

To see if he will eat and grow

But ................... he cant as no teeth!

Will be in touch

POEM - Little Flo’s Letter

A sweet little baby brother had come to live with Flo
And she wanted it brought to the table, that it may eat and grow

Oh, why hasn’t it teeth dear Grandma, asked Flo in a great surprise
O dear, isn’t that funny, no teeth but nose and eyes

I guess the baby’s toofies must have been forgot
Can’t we buy him some like Grandpa’s, I’d like to know why not

That afternoon to the table, with paper, pen and ink
Went Flo saying, don’t you talk, if you do you’ll disturb my think

I’m writing a letter Grandma, to send to Heaven tonight
And because it is very important, I want to get it right

At last, the letter was finished, a beautiful letter to see
Directed up to Heaven, then Flo read it to me

Dear God, the baby you sent us was awfully nice and sweet
But because you forgot its toofies, the poor little thing can’t eat

So that’s why I’m writing this letter, in order to let you know
So please come and finish our baby, that’s all from Little Flo

This is the version I remember from school.
As sweet little baby brother
has come to live with Flo
She wanted him brought to the table
So he could eat and grow
You must wait awile, said grandma
In answer to her plea
For a little thing that has no teeth
Can't eat like you and me
Why hasn't he got teeth grandma
Asked Flo in great surprise
Oh my but isn't it funny
No teeth but nose and eyes
That afternoon to a corner
With paper pen and ink
Went Flo saying
Don't talk to me
Or you'll disturb my think
I'm writing a letter grandma
And it's got to go tonight
And because it's very important
I want to get it right
At last the letter was finished
A wonderful thing to see
Directed to God in heaven
Please read it over to me
Asked little Flo to her grandma
To see if it's right you know
And here is the letter written to God
By little Flo

Dear God,

The baby you sent us is very nice and sweet,
but because you forgot his toofies
the poor little thing can't eat.
That's why i'm writing this letter,
on purpose to let you know,
please come and finish our baby
That's all from little Flo

My mother who is 92 today as recited this poem known to me and my brother as 'The unfinished baby'for the past 63 years and many before that.It has always been her party piece. She told me she learnt it as a child.I can't believe I have found it...simply as no one has ever heard of it.Does anyone know when it was written and by who.
