Can anyone point me towards the full words of the Edwin Muir poem which ends 'Our peace betrayed us, we betrayed our peace;/ Look at it well: this was the good town once'? I haven't been able to find it on the web.

Many thanks!

Alex

It is called The Good Town- inspired by pre-war Prague. I don't have access to my books at the moment, so can't give words. It might be worth lookin for a second-hand CP- he wrote some other vg poems.

I was not able to find it
- just a couple of lines ...
..................
We have seen
Good men made evil wrangling with the evil,
Straight minds grown crooked fighting crooked minds.
Our peace betrayed us; we betrayed our peace.
Look at it well. This was the good town once.

It's in Selected Poems of Edwin Muir edited by T S Eliot. It's rather long, I'm afraid - four verses taking up three pages!

He lived in Swaffham Prior where my brother lived too.
