" I love little pussy,her coat is so warm
And if I don't hurt her she'll do me no harm,
To sit by the fire is all she desires"
does anyone know the rest of this poem ?
Thanks,ruth
This is all I remember, maybe there's more.
I love little pussy
Her coat is so warm
And if I don't hurt her
She'll do me no harm
So I'll not pull her tail
Nor drive her away
But pussy and I
Very gently will play.
That's all that the Ladybird Book of Nursery Rhymes has, so there probably is no more.
the one I know goes :
I love little pussy, her coat is so warm;
And if I don't hurt her, she'll do me no harm.
So I'll not pull her tail, nor drive her away
But pussy and I very gently will play.
She shall sit by my side, and I'll give her some food;
And she'll love me because I am gentle and good.
I'll pat pretty pussy, and then she will purr;
And thus show her thanks for my kindness to her.
But I'll not pinch her ears, not tread on her paw,
Lest I should provoke her to use her sharp claw.
I never will vex her, nor make her displeased -
For pussy don't like to be worried and teased.
Thank you all, so much, yes thats the one ! I must have confused another rhyme with 'to sit by the fire etc' Ruth
actually I believe you are almost right . . .
because sometimes the line
She shall sit by my side, and I'll give her some food
reads
She shall sit by the fire, and I'll giver her some food
I ve just discovered a lovely site with cat quotes, poems etc
www.catquotes.com
and that nursery rhyme is actually there !
thanks again, ruth
Thanks ilza, the extra lines never made it onto Listen With Mother when I was a listener.
quite cute, isn't it ?
Difficult to believe the local cats could be anything like that. They seem to think they're mini lions and hunt anything they can get their claws into, including butterflies and dragonflies. The trouble is they don't eat the shrews they catch (I'm told they don't like the taste) but leave them on my drive.
this is the first time in my life I have no cat !
I had a cat once, a lovely white cat, with beautiful blue eyes,
rather calm, but who would "explore the neighborhood"
and disappear for hours, or nights ...
she suffered an accident but was able to come back home
( but lost her hearing) - and then we were contacted by another family,
who went knocking door to door,
looking for THEIR cat which was - yes - our cat ... !
so we had 'joint custody" without even knowing it !
now, that is smart, isn't it ?
the possibility to choose menu, bed for the night, etc
...
Cats
A. S. J. Tessimond (1902-1962)
Cats no less liquid than their shadows
Offer no angles to the wind
They slip, diminished, neat through loopholes
Less than themselves; will not be pinned
To rules or routes for journeys; counter
Attack with non-resistance; twist
Enticing through the curving fingers
And leave an angered empty fist.
They wait obsequious as darkness
Quick to retire, quick to return;
Admit no aim or ethics; flatter
With reservations; will not learn
To answer to their names; are seldom
Truly owned till shot or skinned.
Cats no less liquid than their shadows
Offer no angles to the wind.
What have I started ? lol lol We have 4 cats, 2 DO eat shrews,interestingly it s the toms (neutered of course) the ladies don t like the taste ! And next door's cat has 3 homes( that we know of) Cats are certainly very intelligent creatures! ruth
