I've been asked to look at Cowper and Newton's Olney Hymns and how they reflect the period in which they were written in. ie their religious ideas and how influential were they? Any insight or recommended links for this would be fantastic.

Calvin's ideas are discussed further down in that same page. I remember working my way through such contradictions in my college days. How can man have free will when our omniscient God knows exactly what we will do in the future, for example. Nothing whatsoever to be gained from such arguments, but a great reason to stay up all night drinking beer and yelling at each other!

I always thought He was reading the last pages of a whodunit, we make the choices but we can't skip ahead to see the end.

While you can sit up all night on the internet, SHOUTING isn't as satisfying and where's the beer? It's your round.
