what do you mean with features? If you mean poetic devices:

rhyme, metre, assonance, alliteration, personification, onomatopeia, tone, apostrophe, oxymoron, simile, etc.

try googling for poetic devices to find out more.

  1. Cliché - it is impossible to write anything completely new anymore, so all poems will have examples of cliché.

    1. Angst - Every good poet is depressed, which always shows up in his/her work.

    2. Syzygy - every poem has errors in construction that result in combining two feet into a single metrical unit.

    3. Logorrhea - No poet can write a short poem. Poets find it impossible to stop and become increasingly enchanted with seeing their own words once they get on a roll.

    4. Sesquipedality - Unless the poet sends you off to the dictionary several times per poem, life becomes too depressing.

    5. Misdirection - No one can call a cloud a cloud anymore. Poets all use one or more kinds of secret codes to keep you from following their meanings. Examples are those mentioned by Desi - simile, metaphor, synesthesia & metonymy. Or is it metomyny? I forget.

    6. Abracadabry - Magical incantations to prevent the reader from knowing what the poet is talking about.

    7. Flimflammery - Swindling readers from guessing a poem's drift. Those who may not have already been so distracted, that is.

    8. Gobbledygook - Jargon known only to those familiar with the devices listed above.

      Hope this helps!

I assumed the assigment was taken directly out of a particular textbook, since the question has no definite answer that I have ever heard of. There are no exactly nine features of poetry, I mean. Surely the correct answer(s) are to be found there?

If forced to respond, I would say there is only one 'feature' of poetry - it uses the line (as opposed to sentences that we see in prose). Other things, such as rhythm, sound, imagery and such literary devices do not appear in 100% of those works we can agree upon as 'poetry'.

No question, but that the 9 features are those which Caren's instructor had given them in class.

Copied from a Google search for tpcastt:

T: Title

What does the title mean literally? Complete this before reading the poem.

P: Paraphrase

After reading the poem, what does it mean literally in your own words? (This can be very difficult when a poem has abstract meaning.)

C: Connotation

What does the poem mean beyond the literal?

A: Attitude

What is the feeling(s) expressed by the author?

S: Shifts

Changes in speakers and attitudes in the poem.

T: Title Interpreted

What does the title mean beyond the literal?

T: Theme

What is the poet saying?
