hi, my name is Matthew and i am currnetly studying Margeret Atwoods 'Journey to the Interior' and i have been given an assignment that requires me to find and relate another short (around 25 lines) poem that contains similar themes and journey. I will be very grateful if anyone can give me another poem that i can use as a support text for 'Journey to the Interior'.
THank you

Here's one Margaret Atwood wrote:

There are so many things I want
you to have. This is mine, this
tree, I give you its name,

here is food, white like roots, red,
growing in the marsh, on the shore,
I pronounce these names for you also.

This is mine, this island, you can have
the rocks, the plants
that spread themselves flat over
the thin soil, I renounce them.

You can have this water,
this flesh, I abdicate,

I watch you, you claim
without noticing it,
you know how to take.

Matthew does your instructor give you a suggested list of poems from which to choose?

THE JOURNEY
---Christopher Griffin

Many feeble footsteps,
Follow me to where I stand,
Where happiness lie fields of green,
Where sorrow, desert sand.

Many roads I've taken,
Many paths I've crossed,
There's times I've been knee deep in sand,
And times when I've been lost.

My footsteps went through mountains,
And crossed through stormy seas,
My footsteps lead through hurricanes,
And passed through gentle breeze.

Though rain and hail may shower down,
And storms may come my way,
My footsteps are still perceivable,
Their image will forever stay.

Matthew, are you clear what you mean by an 'inner journey'?

To find more posts on this subject, click on 'Search' at the top of this thread and enter 'inner journeys' (be sure you get the spelling right) for the subject and message categories.
