Does any one know of a poem or a passage from the Bible Old or New Testament?

It appears in our tragies from epics, poems, and prose is western tradition but I have not come across it much in the Bible and am writting a paper and this information could expand that paper.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

There is no suicide in Homer's epic "The Illiad," is there?

Again thank you so much.

King Saul...1 Samuel 31:1-6
Judas...Matthew 27:3-5
King Zimri...1 Kings 16:18
Ahithopel...2 Samuel 17:23
Samson...Judges 16:23-30

David, I hope you find this useful.

Thanks again.

I would like to add that if all the books in both Old and New Testemant, that the amount of suicide is a very low percentage. And that it shows up in both books of Samul evens lowers its percentage, somehow.

Also all the sucides are of men not women.

Further I do not think that Samson committed suicide since for a prayer to God requesting to also die with his enemy is not the same as a rope, or falling on a sword. Because it could have also been miraculous chance at least a chance that Samson could have survived the falling of the pagan temple. But God also may have offered grace for Samson's prayer.

Dido committs suicide in Virgil's "The Aeneid," but none that I remeber without re-reading "The Illiad," And sucicide is also big in the tragedy based in Sopocles. But my question is ;;; is it going to be a stronger force in Greek to Roman History or is it going to be a stronger force in Hebrewic Judisam, by stronger force meaning more witten about.

With the Greek's its woman, with the Jews it men, seems true, and also with Greek's its of love and with Jew's its regarding war, except for with Judas, as the war being fought to bring about Christ idea's was internal and not external fighting and rebellion.

Thanks again for those passages they are a great help.

I didn't see a Search page on that link, but I'm guessing you are not seriously suggesting I read both those texts to discover my error.

Truth be known, I recently re-read both the Iliad and the Odyssey (yeah, it was in Cliffsnotes, so what), and I remember Ajax got up tight and did himself in. Could have been in the 2nd text, yup.

David, perhaps the story of Masada is relevant to your research:

David,
I had considered not including Samson for the very reason you stated. Still, he died by his hands and that was why I mentioned it. You know, since God gave him the strength to destroy the temple you could argue that his was an assisted suicide...bit I wouldn't argue too loudly.

Les,
Masada...great example.

Thanks again everyone the paper is good hopefully.

For assignments the reading requirments were certain books not being the entire epic, but finding out so much more about Ajax certainly agree's for me to read the entire epic. And not becuase of Ajax's tragedy that was a question arising from an assignment.

Again thanks for great thoughts, and to guessing not... and of course their is certainly a "bit I wouldn't argue," to God.
