A sonnet has 14 lines. The easiest to write is the English (or Shakespearean) sonnet. In such a sonnet there are three stanzas of four lines (= 12) and one stanza of two lines (total 14). The lines should rhyme:
abab
cdcd
efef
gg
That is to say, rhyme line one1 with line three, line two with line four (abab), and so on.
Usually they are in iambic pentameter (five beats per line: ten syllables with every second one stressed), such as:
please HELP me WRITE a SONnet WON'T you ALL
Mostly they are about love, but not absolutely required.
