Cinnamon in the Cereal

This morning
seeking the oatmeal lumpiness
of my childhood
of childhood among
my cigarette mother’s
chocolate frosting distraction
and the boat
with nine drowning children
among sibling late nite histories
adventures in Elvis
and Sinatra
and Glen Miller –
off in the radioland
of baseball baseball baseball
back in my brother’s corner
and my sister’s
‘what did he do then?’
adolescent inquiries
in what we weren’t supposed to known
…I still do not know.

How intertwined our lives are in the soundtracks of our familial histories. Good job with this one, Pete.

p.s. Forgive my poetic impositions, but every once in a while my mind wanders away to times and places known only to the sandman and AAA.

Les,

Your poetic impositions assist my poetic revelries whenever my mind is open.

Actually, I prefer nutmeg in my oatmeal, but I do love your phrasing, especially "my cigarette mother..." (I had one too), and the "boat with nine drowning children."

It's good to see you still holding down the fort, Peter. I wish I had the time to visit more often as well as the discipline to write something worth while again.

Have a Merry Christmas and a joyful new year.

Joe

Hey Joseph,

Thanks for visiting and commenting. I miss you and are the poets who have inspired me so much since I first came to the forum in 2002. Too bad this site is so often inaccessible. I have been trying to get back to respond to (or even just read) your comment all month, but could not raise the website.

Hope the new year brings you much that you are content with.

amo et avanti,

Peter
