New York

you struck me in colors
a punch of red
to my cheeks
with merely a smile

I love the memory of your touch
if it is all I ever have
to explain the emptiness
I feel since your departure

there was at least a moment
where your tenderness
escaped your steel caged aggression
and made way to my heart

I will owe you for that
the way you forever changed me
permanently engraving a longing
never meant to be fulfilled

it scared the shit out of you
that I actually saw you
and with that
you chose retreat

but I will always see you
and recognize
the hidden kindness
in your soul

Sherry,

There is such tenderness in your poems...especially the ones filled with longing.

thanks, Peter. I feel like the clog may have dislodged. We'll see what comes out. I appreciate the encouragement.
