Drunken Cupid

A quiver of arrows upon his back
He trots along the forest path
Distracted by a fierce looking pack
of wolves who blatantly show their wrath.

He swiftly flies
Through midnight skies
and rests within a vineyard...

A throat so parched he quenches with wine
which grows upon each twisting vine
And loses himself in a state so divine,
He muddles the destinies of both yours and mine.

In inebriation,
He loses contemplation
and draws one arrow after another.
Piercing my heart
like a poisonous dart...
I fall for you madly,
but you want no part
of the adoration I offer.
He's made me so suffer...
In my ears ring his laughter
of no happy ever-after.

For you and I are like a heavy sigh...
Which offers no relief,
But only feeds my grief.

The Gods have played a painful mistake
of toying with us simple folk.
I'm living my life like a stupid joke...
not the least bit funny.

For my heart has been broken by arrows gone askew
Shot from a drunken point of view.

Oh the mess he's stupidly made
May not be undone by jewels or jade.
No monetary wealth may ever be paid
to compensate for the hopeless state
that has become my lonely fate.
