Bleached bone is honed too thin
Stretched skin too tight
White skin too white
Reflecting finer wine tonight
Humanity in hyper pain
Will walk the walk
The dead walk dead
Talk
Unfed dead walk their waIlk
In the rain
Bleached bone is honed too thin to win
White skin is stretched too white and tight
The haggard homeless hurt tonight
Humanity is hyper pain
While walkin' dead walk
In the rain
The siren song is singin' long
With no escape from what is wrong
The garbage bursting bins by noon
While feeble-minded fakirs swoon
The crack-head harlots dive for food
Inside the bins where rats are rude
And fight for every single scrap
While crawlin' 'cross a junkies lap
Bleached bone is honed too thin
White skin is stretched to white and tight
Dead gutter eyes are glarin' up,
The hobo lost his loaded cup
And frantic city fathers scream:
"We must be living in a dream!"
The great academies of truth
Are getting longer in the tooth;
There is no learning left at all
For those who stroll the sacred hall
Society has truly changed,
Priorities are rearranged-
The simple-minded own the store
And pimp the birthright of the poor
To love it is to leave it now
Or that's the mantra anyhow
Escape from inner-city blight
'Cause there's no inner-city light
Bleached bone is honed too thin
White skin is stretched too white and tight
The winds of winter throw debris
From yesterday's lost history-
Impoverished people pass the hat
And wonder where their God is at
Now gravity exerts its force
Upon the poor, it's true, of course,
And all the wretched people sick
As mammon plays another trick.
America, America
God shed His grace on thee
But left your soul in poverty
That drips away your dignity.
Bleached bone is honed too thin to win
White skin is stretched too white and tight tonight

Critiques always welcome.
Lady of the Night
I like the sentiment expressed here Tom. A good read, overall.
Les
tom,
Both the diction and the cadences work for me in this one. The over-all effect satisfies, whatever defects the piece might have in detail.
I ended up glad I'd read it through...and I like the focus on thesubject matter.
avanti,
Peter
