forgetting to remember

You move, shift, change.
What, who, are you now?
How could I not know,
I who knew you best?

How could I forget so much?
The things that I thought
Were me, have vanished.
It's like forgetting to breathe.

How can you miss
What you forgot?
How can you have
What you do not?

I kept it all this time,
Secretly guarding it.
I did not know I was
Guarding it from myself.

But how can I find it,
And how can I not?
Will I remember me,
Or be who I am not?

Angelina:

The Q&A format is very effective for setting the tone and keeping the reader focused on the speaker's inner struggle. Good stuff.
