I took the day off
to spend it with myself
getting reacquainted
with who that is
as I seem to have morphed
in to someone other
than at least the idea
of whom I used to know
you can lose yourself
in your job
in your children
in the hopes of others
and the disappointments
you create by having
the wrong expectations
as you pursue life’s joy
finding each day
that it lies within
and manifests as different things
as the days pile up
and unfold before you
each with unexpected moments
of small victories and losses
that comprise your life
I’d like to become
better friends with myself
though, I rarely make time
to be alone with my thoughts
to be quiet and still
so I can hear the desires
softly whispering in my heart
but today, I'm making time
for myself
I like this introspective narrative, Sherry, especially the third stanza. A fine read.

Amen, sister. I agree with everyone's comments. This is really nice, Sherry.
Mary
thank you, Mary. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I notice many people, when asked how to improve the world, rarely mention proper breathing techniques.
deep cleansing breath in through your nose.....slow exhale through your mouth....repeat as necessary
Don't forget proper hydration. Heavy labor, mind numbing paperwork, prettifying your skin to charm the simple minded. To do any in a hardy, robust manner requires more water than most imagine. Bet you didn't know prettifying was a word?
