The Great Poet
I met the horse
On his way down the mountain tonight.
His silver hair was almost grey.
I moved to the side
To let him go by.
He stopped, looked down the path,
Laughed again as he did when he was champion,
And nodded his head toward the summit.
Once a champion always a champion. When Lance Armstrong is 80, he will STILL be the best that ever was. A good read Peter, and thanks for the link to the poetry reading.

Laughed again as he did when he was champion,
I'm reminded of the protagonist's exact opposite reaction in Sprinsteen's Glory Days.
This is a fine piece of writing, Peter - very succinct with good imagery and a poignant, yet uplifting finish.
