The Circle of Commitment

Taxi Drivers and Hairdressers:
Where do you get your information?
Everyday moves forward
From the lips of the everyday.
Every moment bypassed by the experts.
Every moment has its own icon.
We go forward half-blind half-hopeful
Half wondering how many halves we need
To get by in our dependence
On other people, what they know,
What they think is happening again.

My friend jumped again, they say,
Hurting himself again, but I don’t know…
The lines are cut, electricity is dead --
Britain and the U.S. and Denmark
And the haves conspire
At the cost for everybody else…
70 years? 30 years?
When will the world choke itself
On the old ways keeping out the poor?
Current U.S. life expectancy = 78.1 years.
Who will outlive the world?

Only one world here. Personal. Global.
Why care about those you don’t know…
There is no choice.

The title, 'The Circle of Commitment,' is what the U.S., U.K., Denmark and other countries call themselves in the Danish Document proposing that the countries in their circle take care of themselves and let the rest of the world be subject to the consequences of Global Warming.

Pete, I'm sure Rush Limbaugh would disagree with you, but you make a good point, if this great ship sinks, we all drown.

Les,

I am sure any thoughts Rush Limbough might pretend to have won't hurt my feelings...I am more concerned with science and the possible survival of the species.

Thanks for tuning in.

Amo,

Peter
