La Vie Seulement
Prologue
What have I thought about today and yesterday?...awake and asleep...the ten thousand...people I do not know have not known by name face to face in my life time...the ten thousand seconds I cannot think a single thought...or have not thought for one time ever in my life continuously...the distractions in the pain in my fingers in the operation of the computer in what I want to do next interrupted by my bodily functions...having to pee in the middle of the night on the way to the kitchen something in the way on the way every time to the next thing any next thing before the next
I have thought about the futility of god-talk...of denying or affirming and of speculating with my friends about what happens after you die
I really am content to be worm food, as I said to him and her and them. It is an honor to be passed on mechanically and materially and organically to some other organic creature and not expend my consciousness here concerned with what happens to my consciousness and identity and individuality when this life ends and not speculate about how it continues, however it might be conceived to continue. I am too much of an existentialist, too much a student of the non-existentialist thought of Heidegger, to want to pretend that death is not real for human beings. Or that death is not death.
La Vie Seulement
My coffee is ready and I am ready for my coffee.
The weakness in my back is my condition.
The pain in my finger, on my left hand,
Is only one of my particulars, But it is mine
And I am who the universe manifests itself as
Here now...this between. And my poetry,
It is of the language, good, bad or indifferent,
It is not so important to call it mine.

The < pre. is placed on the line before the title of the poem, not on the line before the title of the prologue.
Peter, I found the prologue more fascinating than the poem itself. What we create is us, individually and collectively. Consider these observations:
We all cheer when someone sets a new human track record.
Putting a man on the moon or taking pictures in space is seen as a positive by most of us.
So too, works of great art are appreciated universally,..
But, none of us can probably lay claim to any one of the accomplishments listed above as an individual one. Yet, the advancement of the species depends on all of us.
