A City-Song for you (take 2)

A City-Song for you

Today I wrote a song for you
While listening to the street
The rhythm of a clacking shoe
Filled the sidewalk with a tune

The passing cars became the beat
How perfect then the sounds
Of a single creaking park bench seat
And a crosswalk full of stomping feet

The singing dogs stretched out their chains
Barking in perfect pitch
To welcome in the soft spring rain
And answer the horn of a distant train

This city song for you was sung
And if you listen close
Behind the reckless pounding drum
You’ll hear my quite city hum

This is a second write of a poem I posted a little while back. The first draft is below:

Today I wrote a song for you
And sang it in the street
The words of course, the clacking shoes
Honking horns were made the tune
And passing cars the beat

For you alone the song was sung
The smallest ears must be
To hear the quiet city hum
Behind the reckless pounding drum
Two hearts in perfect harmony

The rewrite is good Aaron, worth the effort I think.
