In Our Asymmetrical Universes
for e.e. cummings
At the end of the day
There’s always a little something
Left over;
Something for the sociologists
And number theorists
To play with;
Something that doesn’t fit into
The pattern
When the pattern is replicating itself.
...until the day you die
And are taken up into
A few faulty memories,
Left over,
Partially replicating themselves
Through your friends and children
And people who didn’t particularly
Like you.

Like this one a lot. Always a matter of personal preference, but I enjoy this kind of expression. The language is straight and clear, but not in a simplistic way.
When read aloud it has a great tempo. It feels like a universal statement of acceptance of the way life is. I love the last line which says it so humbly. I also like "a few faulty memories, Left over,". Great phrase!
I confess to missing the point of the ee cummings reference. I've only read cummings in bits and pieces (usually in collections of various poets). But with or without that, the poem touches a chord. Thanks for another good one.

Thanks, Steve. The cummngs reference was just because when I read it aloud to myself it reminded me of how many of his poems sound when read aloud. I actually read the Complete Poems of e.e. cummings and was encouraged by how many bad poems he wrote while writing those masterpieces of his.

Peter, my first impression of cummings was "what the heck is this guy trying to say?"
Now, I love those works of cummings which work well aloud, or read. This piece regardless of its inspiration is a great read. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Thanks, Les, I also have liked the way this sounds from the first time I heard it speaking itself to me.
