Not at all Joseph,my intent was that it doesn't matter who serves, someone will be dissatisfied with their reign.
ugh...I hope he ain't.
it ain't a haiku
but ii is a fact of life
power corrupts all

Les:
The question above
Was rhetorical, made to
Fit the haiku rules.
answer to your quest
my post is surely a jest;
D.C.'s never best
Les
No poetry is
Capable of using that
Congresswoman's name
I love it when she talks slow so those as stupid as she is can understand her. if I were in a press conference, I'd ask her questions in the same...... slow..... seperated..... speach......she...... uses...... for......explaination.... or..... emphsis.
She really does think that if us peaceniks would shut up the warmongers would stop doing those naughty things. Just give 'em some more money and it'll all go away.

Another press conference thing. William Buckley was once asked what he would do if he were attending a speech by anyone who used the "word" downplay, he replied, "I would upget and outwalk."
Upget and Outwalk
Leave the auditorium.
Way too much downplay

downplay is something
up with which we cannot put
congress something else
slightly different subject
ending sentences with prepositions
What did you bring that book that I don't want to be read to out of up for?
Nancy Plo'si will
Never end a sentence with
Heavenly silence.
Les, Joe, Merc, et al:
I love language. I also am amused with those kinds of language various people, sometimes yours truely [misspelling], can't put up with...for some its inovation [typo]...for some its ungrammaticality...for some its long words...for some its profanity. These boundaries are just that: boundaries, and I guess ol ov us need boundaries, stil [typo], they are also demarcations of our own limitations, and those limitations vary with mood and situation and historical context. Some this Churchill was stuffy as well as funny; some think he was simply uninformaed [typo] about the history of his own language. A lot can be learned from examining one's boundaries and limitations instead of just defending them.
In my role as poet anything goes in composition. In my role as critic, only what works counts [sometimes]. When I read an author I have two conflicting working premises: the author has to know everything she/he says and the author cannot know everything she/he means. But it helps to be informed of both what has been said and written and what is being said and written, so you and I don't get too pedantic and don't shut ourselves off from our audiences by appearing ignorant in different ways from how we are [ignorant].
That is, I practice descriptive linguistics instead of prescriptive linguistics.
amo,
Peter

Peter, one of the neat things about participating in this forum is the interaction of the readers and the varied takes people have on a written piece.
Rekon ah gotta 'low thet ewe ore the exspurt on language. Me,, why I onliest get by wit folks what speak cowboy fluentlike.
Peter, could you explain "passive voice" to me so a physisississt could understand it?
I asked an attorney to explain "agrivated assult" once by telling him that when I assulted someone I was usually agrivated.

Isn't that the voice of the people when they are demanding an end to the war?
Active voice:
The government screws the people.
Passive voice:
The people are screwed by the banks.
Transitive voice:
The people are screwed by Marilyn Manson.
Reflexive voice:
The people screw themselves by trusting the government and the banks.
What is in a name?
Makes little difference to me.
It's impact of acts!
K.Q.
aiy, my friend...impacts, as in she got through the U.S. Congress all that money to kill Iraq's poor people.
Thanks for stopping by,
Peter
thoughtful voice: We should have left Iraq alone and let Sodamn Insane kill hundreds of thousands more than we have killed. Have to admire efficency.
Realistic voice: If you twats would stop arguing like fucking children you could move toward a solution. By your feelings are worth more than the lives of millions, I must remember.
This item began when I wrote a thought in my journal:
My congresswoman today is telling us to shut up for peace now
--after reading that Pelosi was about to push through the war bill for Obama.
I just disguised it as a poem and noticed I could pretend it had a 5-7-5 syllable structure. Then I remembered that Merc hates haiku and loves anti-war poems...so I posted it hoping to get a little rise out of him. For me, the thing has outlived its usefulness. It did remind me that I am no longer a school teacher when I realized I didn't care too much that I couldn't explain sensibly what the passive voice is and couldn't even find a grammar in my stacks of books. Oh, well, onward and upward, P. don't take yourself so fucking seriously.
amo,
Peter
Would I be laughing right now if I took myself too seriously?
