Tony Vaughan 2009
for Nicole, and Jerry, and our other friends
I see Tony once in a while
in North Beach
down on Market street
at the Trieste
before I get there
just a glimpse of his hat
before he turns his craggy face
toward me
and disappears
into the reality
that he is not there now
cannot be there now
and I am left with his absence
and the emptiness in my heart
and he fills me
with memory
and music
Sounds like a heart felt friend has passed, Peter. I think we all know the feeling of having lost someone who leaves an empty space in our lives. You've captured that feeling here. Nicely done.

Thanks, Les. His friends are getting together to read his poetry next week on the first anniversary of his death. I know most of the people on the forum know what it means to keep their friends alive in them after they die.
amo,
Peter
