Harmonic Resonance

Have you looked
Into the eye of a butterfly?
I have...

He does not weep for his future
Or for his past.

He weeps in disbelief
For what he has become
And cannot stand the beauty
Of the moment.

Another metaphor for the life of the poet, I suppose.

Metaphoric? Yes, the butterfly sees what less ephemeral beings might have missed.

Yes, Les. That heightened sense of how short a time we have, each of us.

Thanks for your contribution.

Enjoyed this one much, Peter.

That heightened sense of how short a time we have, each of us.
I second that emotion.

He does not weep for his future
Or for his past.

He weeps in disbelief
For what he has become
And cannot stand the beauty
Of the moment.

You have done so well to capture the bittersweetness or the irony of life (for me anyway) with these lines, Peter. I feel inspired to write something on the subject myself, but am too weary right now. I'm hoping it's still there tomorrow or the next day.

That is the response I prize to a poem...the urge on the part of someone else to write her poem.

Get some rest, Mary, then tackle it.

amo,

Peter

Peter:

Not a single superfluous word; each one complementary to the whole. Your poem is a shining jewel from start to finish. This is why I visit here so often.

Thank you, Joseph. That is exactly what I aim for every time and so rarely get in a piece.

amo,

Peter
