Nobody walks anymore,
Everybody flies.
Or drives.
Everybody’s busy and
bored of people.
I'm busy.
Nobody walks anymore
its too far, easier by car.
Still some runners, in the morning
or the evening.
But nobody’s walking.
Nobody walks anymore.
They're too busy shopping
Quaffing coffees with things in
Too busy for dawdling.
Nobody talks anymore.
Dan
Good one Dan, everyone does seem to be in a rush these days.

I had a dawdle bug when I was a very small lad. Came from Western Auto, 'bout a 25 cc. engine, centrifical clutch. Went about six m.p.h. Ran over my sister Anita with it twice and Dad took it away from me. No accidents there by the way.
Dan,
I really like this. Some of the best things in life are not only free, but simple. I've read that walking is actually better for you than running. Maybe one good thing that will come out of this economy slump and energy crisis will be people getting back to basics a little more. Walking and talking are a good place to start! Enjoyed.

Thanks for your replies everyone, very encouraging.
Merc, thanks for your anecdote, I apologise though, as it made me laugh.
Marty/Mary thanks for your comments. I can't quite decide if you've missed a character out of your signature or not. Anyway, I think that free is good but some of the best and costliest things I have owe nothing to money. Relationships are a good example of this, I think. The old adage of 'nothing is for free' comes to mind.
Dan
Dan,
My name is Mary, give or take a letter or two. They call me Marty....that's not my name, that's not my name...lol. Anyway, I was speaking literally, "free" (as in money).
Your poem reminded me of two songs out lately, "Love Bug" and 1,2,3,4 (I Love You) by Plain White T's. They are catchy little ditties, and though written about what some might consider a worn out subject, still have appeal. The poem speaks with similar simplicity, yet is still meaningful.
I was addressing how we all run around like chickens with our heads cut off, working our butts off, acquiring money so we can buy microwave popcorn and Starbucks coffees. Personally, I much rather like corn popped on the stove
and coffee made at home with a splash of 2% milk in it. We (well, some people) join gyms for hundreds of dollars per year when taking a three mile walk several times per week probably offers more health benefits and doesn't cost a dime.
That's all.
Mary
