A Star Spangled Nightmare
I
Not with a dream for the wind to take away
And not with a yesterday to hem him in,
He was waiting for everybody to go by.
He thoroughly intended to stop.
II
When I use a word from another poem,
I understand what can hold him back.
He waits for aether, passion, ease.
Unity comes from within.
III
With the impetus from the noise on the street
Of some other leaf falling to the ground
Or of a woman knowing her desire, strength,
The way machetes its own way.
Coda
The path makes itself, coupling
With accident and fertility.
Nothing gets itself nothing
