Death and Taxes

When humility has flown
from a man's trembling skies
and he owns up
to nothing
and he pays his dues with lies

When greed is fed and grown
from the trenches in his fields
and he eats
his heart content
when he fills himself the yields

When truth be plainly told
from the echoes of his trees
and he hears
but only whispers
in the forest that he sees

All that remains...

I can't say I fully understand this one, Marty, but it is good to see your name on the board.

I can't say I fully understand it either, Les, but glad to at least get something out and on the board. Thanks and good to see your name as well.

Good poem Mary.
It just feels angry. I like that I can read it my way and that the exact meaning is open. Good to see your work again.

It reminded me of this one:

The palate of the hate departs;...
Anger as soon as fed is dead;
"Tis starving makes it fat.

Thanks, Steve, for your take on it and the poem. You may very well be right on that one. Appreciated.

I write for the Bwlyer Lytton fiction contest all the time, so I understand none of what I read.
Just happy to see a UP gal on the page again. Most of us old tired ones have fallen off.
Heard from JP the other day, just to prove that we do still exist.

I'm gonna read it again Marty, see what we can learn.

Thanks, Terry. I think it's just sayin' that some people are real buggers. And when all is said and done....all they got is death and taxes. I dunno, I just made that up too. Maybe I should try writing for Bwlyer Lytton. lol. Good to see ya ole chap. How ya doin?

Death is assured, especially for merc's and firefighters, taxes... well, let's not get political right now.
Doin' ducky.. this time I took down ol' demon cancer in 28 days. Second shot at the colon, and if it keeps up, I'll have a semicolon. Still no bag to poop in though, ergo, I'm happy for that. But that's cancer twice this century. Never had it last century. I hope the next century is cancer free too.
How you doin? Ever hear from Jack?

So glad to hear, Terry, both on tackling it in short order and without needing the ostomy apparatus. ...semicolon, you are not only a tough cookie, but a funny one at that. I too hope your next century in cancer free. No, haven't talked to Jack since our dinner a few years ago. I would think he'd pop in once in a while, but don't think I've seen him here either. As far as how I've been doin, I've been better, but have also been far worse...so that's a good thing. I'm attempting to resolve a difficult situation and hopefully the solution is just around the corner. Thanks. Take care.

Remember, there are very few problems which cannot be solved with a well placed charge of high explosives... wanna borrow some?
