Truncated Day at the Fair
The cold wind,
my arthritic joints,
the disrupted bus schedule downtown –
because of the parade,
made me take the bus back home
instead of going to the fair
after gathering maps
and routes
and calling daughter
and friend,
I let go of my anticipation
to go home
to get over it all
and let myself
allow myself
be alone
and let that be its own
achievement
for the day.

Enjoyed immensely Peter; plus empathized equally as
I enjoyed. tom
Thanks, Tom.

I empathise and appreciate such accomplishments too! Enjoyable read, Peter.

Most days, that is achievement enough...if only we'd recognize that and accept it for the gift that it is.
You've captured and presented a moment of personal disappointment in a wonderfully poetic fashion.

Thanks for visiting, Khalida and Joseph, and for the sympathetic support.
On the larger scale, a little personal disappointment ought to be something each of us can handle.
Also, there is enough compensation for such things in the absolute joy of being alive.
amo all,
Peter
