the farmer/the shepherd

to the modern day Ceasars, Napoleans:
material is a tool of slavery
are you satisfied with what you've built?
all the walls that you have raised, brick by brick?
that seem indestructible and timeless
all the rooms you sit in alone at night wondering: why?
will you cry surrounded by all your rusted toys?
or will you sleep tight tucked and warm wrapped thrice in ignorance?
my pleasures are simple,
to germinate the seeds forgotten, the seeds that grow and live and die
to tend to the fields ignored, the fields that when reaped feed the mind

within us is the self who stands behind
and behind, and behind all, forever to infinity
whose choice compels us regardless of reason
whose choice holds sway over idiotic passions
whose will he whispers ever louder
whose will cannot be extinguished by death
but rather is fully realized
whose truth is conflicted always
whose truth is indeterminable
whose mind is not yours
whose mind rejects all opinions
whose dialogue paints our reality

obiwon,

The sentiment is certainly worth thinking about for a while...and I like your phrasing.

Thanks,

Peter

Obiwan:

Your passion for the subject matter is obvious and well-stated, more so in the first half of the poem which I find very strong. The image of sleeping "tucked and warm wrapped thrice in ignorance" is especially vivid. I got lost a bit in all the "whose" phrasing in the second half, though that is probably more a matter of personal taste than a indication of your abilities.

Thanks for posting.

Joe

Corrupt people are fools, that's what makes them corrupt. No reason to get hotheaded about it, fools are easily manipulated.

Thanks for the good piece obiwan. A lot to chew at once but it opens some interesting feelings. The theme of the greedy soul resides here. I think we grow to accept that is the way we are.

To Joe's comment. It feels like two poems. Either half would stand well by itself. For me the second tries to influence the first. But I take more from the second part. Personal taste.
