Shadow Thin
After reading ‘A NORTH BEACH POEM’ by Neeli Cherkovski
The falling away of our familiar place
Each morning we re-visit
The soft taping of our meted phrase
Find ourselves falling away of surety
Or guilt or perception –
In the words I almost wrote –
In the place of our identity,
In the place of street cars,
Coffee cup, forgotten rooms of smoke
And lyric intensity.
Good one, Peter, are the poems to which you refer available online?
Les
Les,
Unfortunately, they were all sent to me in private communications, so I did not feel free to quote them in notes or online until after Neeli releases them to the public. I think that make the refers to them elliptic at best, but I felt I should leave the lines referring to his work in the subtitles to assure my own intellectual honesty, since my poems have to stand on their own anyway, but it would not be honest to ignore their relation to him. It does leave the readers slightly in the air, but I decided to let them try to make it out in the world on their own. They were written in sequence, one after the other, after reading each of his poems. I was just acknowledging the inspiration since it was so readily available to me.
Thanks for the note,
Peter
