It's different this year
Something is missing
and it's as if doing without it
might be the only hope
of bringing it back
to forgo the tinsel
and trappings
of plummeting markets
fuel fluctuations
tangled lights
burnt fuses
broken bulbs
and broken everything
it's as if it calls for
doing nothing
but giving the man
who slept in his car last night
ten dollars so he can get home
Tis the season, Mary, to think of others, beautifully done here.
Les
The spirit of Christmas, beautifully expressed. Well done.
Thanks Les and Joe. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Mary
yes to the sentiment and yes to the poem.
go for it.
peter
yes, Peter, thanks.
Mary
What time of year is it?
time to start again, my friend, hoping we can all get it a little righter, ay wot?
Peter
Good one Mary.
Yes, I feel that line....."and broken everything".
Getting back to the feeling of giving sounds right. I like the nod to the people who ring the bells too.
It makes me think of Yeats.
And twenty minutes more or less
It seemed so great my happiness
That I could bless, and be blessed.
Hope you have a blessed Christmas, with or without tinsel.
Steve
Thanks, Steve. I'm really not in the mood for all the frills this year. But somehow I think like in whoville, it will come just the same. And we'll probably be better off celebrating with less of the hupla. Hope you have a blessed Christmas too.
Mary
I really like the title. Alone it says a lot!
K.Q.
love the title.
like the sentiment about doing without. too much going on this time of year that we cannot focus on what this time of year is truly about.
merry christmas everyone.
redmittengirl
Thanks, K.Q.. I guess those kettles are universal. Good to hear from you.
Thanks mitts.
Mary
Tis a fine sentiment Mary, have you followed it through though?
I find the Christmas do-gooders a royal pain in the ass. Bloody middle class Christians...
Yeh once a year! The real people are at it all year round, with no seeking of approval, they just go about their business quietly, helping and loving.
Sorry, i wasn't having a go at your poem, it does spark some debate though:
Courage of your convictions and all that.
cheers
Kris
Howdy Chris..
Debate seems to be the word of the day. Nah, when he asked for the money, I told him to go suck an egg or stop back on Christmas and I might consider it.
A pleasure as always,
Mary
