You looked at me, a magic glance,
Then, withdrew your eyes from mine,
And told me that you have a life,
That's left me out of time,
A life mapped out in glory,
Through the Kingdom and the realm,
Of a Prince who's heart you've taken,
Who now steers you from your helm,
Who guides you through the heavens,
Who's face lights up your sky,
Who leaves me just a relic,
Leaves me wondering why?
That your heart would have a place for me?
That's a crazy dream indeed, but,
It's been so long since I felt alive,
So long since I felt this need,
So you'd better run and hide girl,
Run, and hide your face from me,
Don't show to me your sunshine,
Because then everyone will see,
And they'll fill your head with legends,
Tales of things I've said and done,
Through a life that's over twice as long as yours,
And more than half way gone,
So, in the midnight forest,
A place of dark and gloom,
I gaze upon your castle,
And the window of your room,
There you look out across your Kingdom,
Softly lit by candles light,
And don't see me in this darkness,
So very far beneath your sight,
But your star so bright in my sky,
Fills the caverns of my heart,
Lighting paths that lead to glory,
Away from shadows and the dark,
It's in your name, you are a Princess,
A star that shines so bright,
That's woken me from slumber,
That makes me cry out in the night,
For it's so long, since I've had a quest,
To slay the dragons in the skies,
Done deeds to win a Princess,
Or saw reflected in her eyes,
A quantum of that magic,
That still keeps alive my soul,
And shows to me a promise,
Of life complete, and whole,
And I wonder if you know it,
Or if you even give a damn,
I'm an old man, who's life's now over,
I'll never hold your hand,
You shine golden blonde, and blue eyed,
But my hope must lie elsewhere since,
I'm a Knight, as dark as midnight..
I know I'll never, ever, be your Prince...

I'm a sucker for princes and princesses so enjoyed reading this, Paul. The tragedy of unrequited love continues to be agelessly poetic and romantic. Good job.
Mary
A good read, Paul.
Les
The inspiration was in her name.
