Makes 2 pie crusts.

The hardest part
Of baking two
Custard pies
From scratch—

With all organic
Fresh for Thanksgiving
Ingredients—

(Whole wheat
Apple juice crust)

Waiting for the
Bus home
From Whole Foods:
Forty minutes.

I think I remember you making the pies last year, too, Peter. You must be the pie maker in the family. Whole wheat, apply juice crust, and custard...does sound exquisite. I make the same two every year, pecan and pumpkin. I wish I was more adventurous and would branch out and try something else. Maybe next year. Happy Thanksgiving!

Whole wheat, apple juice crust. Sounds intriguing. May we have the recipe?

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Whole Wheat Double Pie Crust
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup apple juice
1. Cut together 3/4 cup whole wheat flour and 1/2 cup butter until the butter is small marble-sized. Make a well, and quickly pour and cut in 1/4 cup apple juice. Gently knead on a floured surface for 2 minutes.
2. Separate into two balls for the top and bottom crusts.
3. Roll out with a floured rolling pin. Place one on the bottom and sides of a pie plate. Add pie filling and cover with the top dough. Seal the edges and prick the top crust with fork.
4. Bake at 350*F for 35 to 60 minutes, depending on the filling.

You wait 40 minutes for a bus here, and you will be making your pie from frozen ingredients, if you survive the wait.

Thanks for the little slice of life. Happy Thanksgiving.
