I've floundered in despair since November
standing graveside and marking time
alongside a farewell to the security
of my youth

It's late October now
and that makes nearly a year
of anxieties fighting
for first place in my mind

it was dark for a long time
and I don't mind gray skies
I have always found them comforting
but black is different than gray

generally, I'm upbeat by nature
but there's been nothing resembling natural
since this November past
Until lately

you entered center stage
unexpectedly
and without even trying to perform
you completely captured me

audienced front and center
and waiting
stomach butterflied
for what you might do next

suddenly, I'm smiling again
and shedding burdens that drug me down
forgetting to feel sad inside
alive, awake and ridiculously joyful again
(rediscovering my "MEness")

you don't even realize
what it is that you have done
you might say I'm "the bees knees"
but I must tell you, you're (my)honey

sometimes it's the simplist gifts
that restore us
and I thank you
for soothing my soul...

Nicely done, Frosty, I liked all of this one, with the possible exception of the "bee's knees" stanza. It's great to read an upbeat poem as winter approaches.

thanks, Les. The bees knees is a quote from the person...so it's in there to personalize it. Thanks for reading. I always appreciate your support.

I really like this Frosty. The uplifted feeling in the speaker could be genuinely felt when reading. Enjoyable.

Sometimes we miss chances to thank people for their kindness, Frosty. I really like this:

KQ, you know how in life you can get so bogged down by all the "stuff that's happening" in your life that you start to forget that those things are not "your life" but just things that are going on in your life and that you are something totally different than all of that? thanks for commenting on this particular part of the poem.

Les, it IS easy to forget to let people know how you feel. I try to tell people I love what they mean as often as possible...I'm glad you enjoyed it.
