Aquamarine in your lollipop gaze,
with grace and bliss to vault
the abyss between destiny and eternity.
A honeybee on the briny deep,
you are calm and deliberate,
like hope in a lullaby.
I am laid flush on a powderkeg,
wearily braced for the gorgeous explosions
as time escorts me through the blast;
I have grown to admire the smithereens.
Fast asleep at Fortune’s wheel,
we overshot the best of times
but when our craft was pulled to earth,
Serendipity drew us from the fuselage,
fixing our eyes on peace and tranquility.
The beauty of a butterfly twinkle;
the hilarity of a flabbergasted hippopotamus;
the absurdity of a loquacious kangaroo
rhyming banana with Susquehanna…
these are moments cosmopolitan and few.
Let us embrace cozy sentiment,
champion the giggling enthusiasm of youth,
cherish the paradox in tickles and hiccups,
diving headlong into sweetheart rainbows
and sunshine blossoms.
Our shipshape renaissance begins tonight.

Bob:
For as much as I watch Animal Planet and the National Geographic Channel, I don't believe I've ever seen a flbbergasted hippopotamus. Nonetheless, this is another fine poem from you, worthy of platitudes that I'm unable to verbalize at the moment. My mind is too busy trying to visualize that hippo.
Joe
Great opening lines, Bob, and a very adventurous metaphor throughout. I enjoyed the read, keep them coming.

i've been reading this on and off today. each time, something different makes me light up. at this point, the above stanza is what has drawn me in the most. i have felt that, i realized, after reading this over and over. you said it so well! i know what it is like to wearily brace myself..and later to admire the smitereens. awesome!

Joe, Les and Johnniegirl: Thanks for reading this one. Truly, I don't know what to make of it myself. It just came pouring out, and then I was forced to drink it and figure out whether it tasted good or not. But I'm very pleased to see your reactions.
Too much metaphor? Someone told me that, dammit, I'd better start getting to the point of what I mean to say, or he's not going to bother reading my stuff anymore. Naturally, I'm inclined to go the other way...

Red Skelton once said that he was bored with himself, because everything he said, he already knew.
Johnny and Illud.. you two do not suffer such a handicap.

I don't even know what to make of this now. Feels like someone else wrote this a lifetime ago. I had to search for it to see if anything I wrote still mattered.
To all who came before, I miss you, and I miss poetry today.
Yes, it still matters, Illudium, good to see you back on board.
Les
My. Thanks for digging this up. I know what it is: just plain fun!

Glad you found your way back, Bob. Hope to see more of your posts.
