It amazes me that
10 shots,
one lesson learned, and 48 hours later,
my heart still hurts,
my soul still cries - s o f t l y -
and my eyes still search for you,
who are not there.

Hi Lady,

I don't know why, exactly, but I read the last line as:
who art not there.

Interesting piece, curious to know more.

The title need not be said: Memory.
I enjoyed this read (sorry), but it seems pain inspires well!

Minimilist, yet concise.

Now is where I get to say...

"I told you so!"

and

"Why didn't you drink water with it?"

"Silly goose!"

Love you.

Gwyd,

Got drunk last week for the first time. And. It. Sucked. Big time. I will never do it again!! This is basically about how alcohol doesn't make things go away. I always knew that, but I wanted to see what it was that made people think it does. After having thrown up countless times, I still can't figure it out.

K.Q.,

Yes, pain does inspire. Most of my poems have been written out of pain, especially my earlier ones. It's the one thing I seem to still feel acutely, that I feel free to write about.

Bruce,

"I told you so".... well, we know how well I listen.

"Why didn't you drink water with it?" It would've watered it down! Plus, when Marc came over (after most of the throwing up and that sort of thing) he tossed me one of over 72 bottles of water I have in my living room. Started to chug it and he took it away, said I can't drink it fast. Why?????? I was thirsty!!

"Silly goose!" Yup.

Love you too.
Megan

I didn't mean adding water to the booze, Megan, I meant this following formula to avoid hangovers (which are the result of dehydration).

2 oz hard liquor + 1 glass of water = no staring at a toilet bowl
2 glasses of wine + 1 glass of water = no headaches
2 bottles of beer (aliminum isn't good for you and it tastes better from a bottle too) + 1 glass of water = nicely refreshed without the bad side effects.

As long as you are doing it this way, drink the water as fast as you like. Also, the water should be at room temperature. Cold water isn't actually good for us; it plays havoc on our body's internal temperature control mechanisms by making "it" think that the body is cooler than it really is.

Kapish?

I don't measure my liquor in ounces. I measure it in shots.

Hello, my name is Terry and I am an alcoholic. I will never get drunk again either, last drink was 5 Sep 1977. Even having dinner with El was not celebration enuff to drink.
Like the poem though Ms. Clemmer.

Well done Terry. 29 years come September. Quite an accomplishment.

Nutmeg,

1 shot IS one ounce, so even though you didn't know it, you were measuring it in ounces; at least you were if you were using a proper shot glass. :p

You should follow Terry's example. Years from now you will be thankful for it.

I told you guys, it's never happening again. Doesn't mean I'll never have a drink again, it means I'll never get drunk again. Don't worry! Didn't you see the "one lesson learned" bit? And people have YET to tell me why I can't chug water after having been drunk!

Nutmeg,

As far as I know there is no problem with chugging water, drunk or otherwise. I wouldn't suggest egg nog though. Definitely don't chug that drunk. Only took me one (w)ry(e) lesson to figure that one out myself.

Also, hate to say it dear, but the "I'm never going to get drunk again..." thing. Heard that one MANY times before. However, if you do stick to it; congratulations!
