When at first I saw the light
Was in the hour of darkest night
While shadows slumbered in the trees
Waking not against the breeze.
With arms outstretched before me go
I walked a path where thistles grow
Afraid what lurked behind the trees
With cadaver shadows on their leaves.
Where in the rustles I could hear
The daunting screams of my own fear
Haunting me throughout the night
When in the distance, shone a light.
Stumbling, I ambled on
The thistled trail my feet upon
Searching for the speck of light
That teased my unrelenting fright.
Falling to my weakened knees
I called out to the coffin trees
Begging them to step aside
To show me where the light resides.
With knees pressed firmly to the ground
And echoes of my plea resound
I saw before me, new dawn breaking
Shaming the fear of my own making.
When to my feet I slowly rose
Upon the path where thistle grows
I brushed the petals from my knees
Where flowers bloom near coffin trees.
Marty,
Nice job, I like the imagery and the flow of the poem. Welcome to Emule.

Nicely done, Marty. I enjoyed the read.

If not mistaken, I believe it has been four years, to the day, since I posted my first poem on e-mule. It's strange to think I lost three people very close to me since then. Thank goodness for e-mule, which has remained one of the bright spots!

Mary:
Happy Anniversary...if you can call it that. I'm glad you stayed with the mule.
Joe
Mary, congratulations on your perseverance. I'm glad you haven't let e-mule's quirks keep you from contributing to this forum. You've been a source of friendship and inspiration to us all.
Les
Joe,
Yes, I think of it as an anniversary! Thanks much.
Les,
Thanks Les. I'm pretty sure to persevere for as long as e-mule and/or I survive. I hope you and everybody else does too. You've all been great friends and an inspiration to me as well.
Mary
Happy Anniversary! As Les says, it is as much our celebration to have known you as it is yours!
K.Q.
Thanks much K.Q.. Good to see you.

Happy Anniversary,,, and 22 Oct was Carol's 38th wedding anniversary. Image being hooked to me for more than a week.. let 'lone 38 years. Guess it was mine too. Anyway Mart.. glad you are here, love your work. Let's both go another 38.
Congrats to you and Carol on your Anniversary, Terry! Glad you're here too. I've never had much luck in the anniversary department, so another 38 might be a stretch. Would you settle for ten?
