Poetry lovers,
I'm reading "Break, Blow, Burn" by Camille Paglia. It's knocked my socks off!
watch out or the cat will steal your socks
My cat has his own socks. YOU just read the book and make interesting comments for us all and don't worry about my socks.
Got any better suggestions?
She's too clever for me.

$20.00 for 43 poems? Including shipping, that is. It had BETTER be good! Still, how can the poems be 'read' by the author if they are on a page and not a recording?

I see my local library has it, but apparently there already 10 requested holds for it. I reserved a copy anyway.
Hugh, I anxiously await your opinions.
I just looked it up on Amazon.com and sure enough, the "customer reviews" range from rhapsodical to vicious, with NO stop in the middle for neutrality.
Paglia's mission in life is to push buttons in a big way, and you don't have to like her a bit to appreciate her ball-busting approach to everything.
I find her distastefully misinformed on almost anything I have actually seen seen for myself. Entertaining distraction at best.
Exactly! There's no neutral ground. Once you get around her high horse attitude, she actually has some arresting remarks. The introduction alone is worthwhile. I don't in any way pretend to know as much as she, but once in a while I dare to disagree. (just to myself) But then during other readings, I want to fist pump and yell amen. I don't, of course, lest I be confused with the Southern religious right.
she taught in Phillly at the same place I did when I was there, though I never met her
drpeternsz,
distasterully mininformed in what way? What have you seen for yourself? I would be really happy to hear what you have to say. Enlighten me.
I read in Literary Hermeneutics, Peter.
Succinctly, I do not like sloppy scholarship, whether it be from a New Age Egyptologist or a trendy literary critics.

I'd rather encourage a novice poet than any 'critic' of the Paglia variety. Ugh, I sound distateful here myself. I'll shut up. I think that is why I got out of that business ten years ago.

Peter,
Your CV is most impressive. That aside, I still like the book. : )
I'm sure it is a pleasure for you. I don't mean to go off, but I do.
Peter
Why don't you name your cat "Socks"?
"I "Love Summer more than I hate Winter"
Peternsz:
Are you happier now?
"I "Love Summer more than I hate Winter"
A firecracker is very boring unless it goes off.
"I "Love Summer more than I hate Winter"
I am happier reading and writing poetry and doing what I can to support poets by attending readings, buying books by young poets and, of course, participating in the joy of this forum, which I find truly inspiring both for my work and for my soul.
Thanks for asking, Jean-Paul, it makes a difference.
Peter
