Could you please eliminate all ludicrous postings by Cherrytreeinspring and all posts which contain html's to pharmacies and whatever? Thanks.

Isn't that pesky Moderator supposed to be mopping up these messes? Probably too busy reading poetry or some such other time wastings.
If you're talking about Stephen, Hugh, he's taking courses at the University in Kent. Taking care of his grandson, a myriad of cats, and training guide dogs for the blind. We exchange e-mails from time to time, and he's aware of the Prince William fanatic and these other spammers, but I don't think they're very high on his "to do" list.

Thanks for the announcement.
FYI, Les I appointed you moderator. Thought I would appoint first, ask if you wanted to volunteer second. The only change you should notice with your new special powers is the ability to edit, delete, move or close any thread from any of the 4 discussion boards. Oh, and your name should show up in bold now
That said, any other volunteers to help moderate should post here and I'll appoint you. The only advantages of being a moderator beyond your name in bold is the ability to delete spam instantly. My 9 years of experience running discussion boards over the web have taught me the only way to stop spam is to have active moderators delete the spam as soon as it is posted.
All ~30 postings from the guy in Mexico were deleted regarding the casino. Thanks for letting me know.
Tax season is almost over. Sarbanes-Oxley + Tax Season have given me a 8 months busy season. If I wasn't mentally insane before, I am certifiable now!

Les,
Please also let me know if I made any mistake to your user account. It had been some time since I last used the user profile admin module and I am afriad it may have adjusted some of your personal settings....let me know if I made any mistake.
best,
Aaron

Aaron, I feel somewhat like Lyndon Johnson, who said: "If nominated I will not run, if elected I will not serve."
Actually, once I find out what a moderator is to do, I would be happy to help Stephen clean up some of the messes left by a few irresponsible posters here at e-mule.
Les
There's another quote by LBJ regarding people in the tent, but I'll have to get a feel for this new moderator before I post it
Good Luck Les....everything in moderation !

I think there has been too much graffiti on these poetic walls. We can either clean it up, or live in filth. What say you fellow USP's?
Les
Good luck kill em all die die die
"To write something, you have to risk making a fool of yourself." Anne Rice
Thanks Nolon, for agreeing. Seems everyone on the USP wants the E-mule audience without the e-mule rules. Glad to see there are some here who have had the perserverance to help make e-mule a friendly place.
As to the spammers, I think of them as graffiti artists, the faster their scribbling is erased, the better.
Les
I agree about friendship, better than either grafittie or rules.
Seen scrawled on the eMule walls:
'Friendship rules;
rules don't win friendship.'
'hack the spammers'
'elucidate the elucidators,' 'let them loose' 'date em'
'small is for dogs,
let them each poetry'
[cross out 'small' and replace it with'spam'--'small' is my typo for 'spam']
[scratch that, small works too]
Post Edited (04-10-05 11:49)
quite like grafitti actually, as long as its beautiful. Would likewise welcome spam in poetry form.
Anyway, if you need more moderators, don't hesitate to ask me.

Desi, thank-you! You have been appointed moderator to all 4 boards.
Best,

Aaron, if you're serious about my helping you, I need to be able to log-in. I can't currently do that.
Out of curiosity, has Stephen asked for help? I think he is doing and has done a fine job here.
Les
thanks Aaron!
Ok, I think I deleted all the spam so far. Also deleted some double postings and as Johnny requested everything written by one "les". I also took the liberty to block this sender. Kidding ;-)
Anyway, if you find any more, keep on posting here. We'll just see who's first to remove things. I agree that Stephen has done well, and is doing well. But I can imagine that he is not 24 hours on internet and the shorter the spam is online, the better for the forum.
Thanks, you work much faster than Aaron or Rudy!
Les
I for one happened to like the "ludicrous postings by Cherrytreeinspring "
If I'm the ONLY one, then I will let this go and not argue free speech et al
Les, you seem to have changed from lg to ls in some posts.
Linda, it's not me, that's Aaron's tinkerings. Probably a spiteful touch for all the ribbing he's take from me. It's OK. I don't mind changing tags. I'm still Les. Though I do wonder who stole the "e".
Johnny, you're probably alone with the cherrytree thing. Seems out of place on a poetry forum.
Les
Unlike them, I suppose I just don't have a life. grin
Les, if they were still there, I'd reformat them and they wouldnt look or read much worse than some other "poems" I've seen
they wouldnt look or read much worse than some other "poems" I've seen
Good point.
Les
Desi, here's a quote for you:
If you want to get something done, give it to a busy person. (Anon.)
Les
I know another one:
If you want something done, ask a woman.
Vacillating
One of the attractions of this board is word play, at times they are absolutely delicious, but if the mind is locked in a topic specific mold they can be distracting.
One can argue that any censorship has an element of bite, but groups and individuals cannot function without rules. Consequently, if the majority finds post of a particular type offensive, that post should be removed.
Censorship by a group, where the unwanted material is discussed, where the intent is known is censorship of function and purpose.
However:
Cherry Tree is not going to head any ideological group.
When her post appeared, the reader mind stopped-asking, “What is this?”
Later, it occurred to me that Cherry’s posts may have been absurdity aimed at word players in general; a studied read of her post concluded that this person is, ‘sucking on the jug or drugs.’
How ‘cute’ it would have been, if a party had posted: “Cherry Tree, click here, xxx.@ crazed rants, but, that idea only comes now, not THEN.
I want to vote twice, fifty percent for form and purpose and fifty percent for the post by JohnnySansCulo.
CherryTree has a place, I’m not sure where it is: sadly neither does she.
Thanks Jerry
she never interacted, even when I tried to press the Prince of Whales connection, and now that Camilla is the Duchess of Cornoil, I was ready for another round
If you want something done, ask a woman.
I agree with you on that. I've worked for many women in my life and in times of crisis they are much calmer and even-handed than most of the men I've worked for.
I care not who moderates this site, as long as the spammers do not have their way.
Les
I'm all for it, as long as I know what the boundaries are.

We occidentals have been told the blossoming of such trees drives some to peculiar behaviors.
Are the messages inscrutability due to the Cherry Blossoms of Spring, or is there a greater conundrum we occidentals cannot grasp?

It seems the user is not stupid enough to use his homecomputer. He is in a library. I don't think the people there can do much either. I wish we could just block him or her to force him to create a new login every time.

Spam, I love you. I think you are the greatest. Come save us from the weenies that JM Schneider is dropping on us. He is not thinking about the safety of my children. He is a cannibal.

One of my Bon Mots is now "missing" because of heavy-handed censorship
I do not like the tone that this is takin
There's a couple of poker postings on the bottom of this thread
[www.emule.com]
Linda, I check ALL new listings about 2 or 3 times per day. Did you see those posts today?
Les
p.s. One good thing about this system is that ALL posts are dated and time stamped. So we can get a pretty good profile of the spammer. I will have some information about our suspects very soon. Also the date stamp allows us to check just the posts for that particular day without having to hunt for errant posts.
thanks Linda. I removed it.
I do a search for html usually. Seems to work. the user submitted forum is too busy to read everything all the time.

Patience, Linda, these things take time. If they're on the board more than 24 hours give me an e-mail. I think I've removed all of them you listed. Thanks.
Les
With the time zone difference I didn't think you'd be around for another few hours, so might appreciate the list. And then they were appearing around me as I read other postings, its not even as if I play poker to want the sites.
True, you're probably correct to post them, Linda. Though I do try to get to them, our spammer is probably east coast U.S.A. , since most of the posts come between 9-10 am Atlanta time, or 10-12 pm New York time.
Les
