A poem by a fellow student contains this phrase. The poet half-remembers a tribe who do this, he thinks in training for some kind of competition. Does this mean anything to anyone?

Either Indian holy men or Japanese zen devotees perhaps. I came across a reference to their being able to control their body heat so well that they could go naked in the coldest weather and perform this feat as well.
