Have you every talked with a graffiti artist on the street, just after he's just defaced a street mural? Neither have I. But street art, it is sometimes in the name of the muse and sometimes in her face. Graffito is as old as the walls in the Catacombs, with those little drawing of the phish, as old as the workman' scrawled initials in Tut's burial extravaganza, as old as the red bricks of Ur and Uruk. How to you respond to urban graffito when you see it?

Belshazzar, from what I recall,
Was the first to object to the scrawl
Of graffiti artistes
Interrupting his feasts,
With their handwriting left on his wall.
Points of trivia - graffito is the singular, grafitti the plural. Art is the media, artist the practitioner.
Pernt of trivia
Art is the medium.
Thanks for the points and the limerick.

It isn't even Little
As Dorctor [sic]Johnson would say.
But my Latin's even less:
Since it's all cribbed... hence it's a mess.
Hugh, is there a good way to learn better scansion of English verse in a three to five month period that would not tear me away from my Charlie Chan or my enraptured scribblings for so much time that I wouldn't have roooom in my life for my weekly episodes of "Dead Like Me"?

Zounds, skewered again!
There was a paperback of Other Men's Flowers published in 1992 which is still fairly easy to get. I thought the hardback book was out of print, and didn't find the paperback attractive, but last year someone found me a hardback copy of the memorial edition (which was reprinted loads of times between 1952 and 1986) - so it is findable if you keep looking.
