The following is the first paragraph from an article in the Financial Times regarding election procedures in the United States. This story about EA Poe is new to me. Anyone know more about it?

The Shadow of the Raven
By Lionel Barber, US Managing Editor
Published: October 28 2004

In 1849, Edgar Allan Poe, the master of the Gothic horror story, was found dead on election day in Baltimore. Poe was a drinker and opium-abuser, but the story soon circulated that he had been kidnapped by a gang, plied with liquor and forced to vote several times before collapsing outside Ryan's Fourth Ward Polls, a notorious bar and voting place.

Can't be a true story - newspapers always only put one 'p' in kidnaped.

I had heard this story a number of years ago....while it may not have happened to Poe, this type of abuse was rampant.....nowadays we just felonize as many minorities as possible, give the e-voting machne contracts to our cronies, and have our brother count everything else

And that's for the apolitical among us.
