I need a topic

I have to do an "informative" speech about something I am already familiar with...hobbies, occupations, etc. Well, all I know is poetry. Do you think I could do an infomative speech (8-10 min) on Poetry? Got any other ideas?

Talia, yes, I was thinking of something like "poetry thru the ages" where you could briefly describe the period and then a brief quote....start with Homer and go on from there. One minute each period you choose
should get 8-10 easy

Sure,

write for ten minutes about why you can't write a poem off the top of your head right now. Most of us might be able to write on that topic for months (I think I could). Good luck.

amo,

Peter

Tell them about Emule. Tending the flame of poetry in the darkening ages, etc. Great institution. Great cast of eccentric inmates. Occasional distinguished visitors. You could easily go on for more than 10 minutes. But when your time's up, just end abruptly, i.e. in mid-sentence, and say that's how it is when the server goes down.

Face it, Talia- we could all do speeches for hours on end about poetry. One topic might be about your tastes in poetry. What do you like and why?

Can you come up with 8 different TYPES of poetry? and give well known examples of each? that should kill 8 mins

I would explain that with poetry each and every element of life is provided.

That the answer's to the questions, have already been thought about, discussed, and written about.

And that as individual's we may not have all the answer's to any questions but what we do have is a resource to help us seek and search for answers.

Than like previously mentioned, plug e-mule.

Thank you all...now I'm feeling like its not a bad idea at all! I will probably have lots more specific questions for you all as I begin. Thanks again!!

Be sure to mention that even (or especially) in a forum full of poetry lovers and readers and writers, there is NO CONSENSUS about "what poetry is."
