Well, now we know just how popular we are.

Or maybe not.
So, this is what you do after the third sherry, is it? Googling emule? You ought to be ashamed! Go and write a poem!!
Stephen
"and lusted after her paramours there, whose members were like those of donkeys, and whose emission was like that of stallions"
Ezekiel 23:20
I would need more than three sherries to read and understand that website.
I don't know why, but Johnny's brandishing of that fine quote from Ezekiel, which I presume [giving him the benefit of the doubt] he intended as an aid to capturing such understanding, reminds me of the hunters' efforts in The Hunting of the Snark:
They sought it with thimbles, they sought it with care;
They pursued it with forks and hope;
They threatened its life with a railway-share;
They charmed it with smiles and soap.
No I didn't google. That was a link from New Scientist. I couldn't understand it either but I had to have something to occupy me while this mule wouldn't go.
And it was only two sherries.
Ian, I appreciate the benefit of the doubt you have given me, but it's probably safer to always think that I operate with the worst of intentions !
Twas merely a play on the whole 'members of eDonkey" ....and that website is as clear in the same way that glass is not.
closing with a Beavis and Butthead laugh at "Members Only" jackets
grin. I am sorry to say, this emule is not our emule. It is a peer to peer client networking system. This means, that a lot of people around the world are connected with this system, and people make programs, music, films etc available to each other and everyone using the system can download everything from everyone. The brilliant thing is, it can't be tracked. Because when you download, you won't download something from just one computer, but it is splitted up in segments over many many computers.
We've had the occassional wanderer here thinking it was there, coming up with strange technical questions ;-)

the world would be a more interesting place
if poets wrote the technical manuals
or anyone with a better sense of language. I translate the things. Often I decide to aemulate instead of translate, since I am of the old fashioned opinion that a sentence needs a verb! (this would exclude some poets though ;-)
by the way, sorry for the double posting. It said it didn't post, and then it apparently had.
Stephen, this is what you get when you Google:

Molly be damned smote Jimmy the Harp
With a horrid little pistol and a lariat
She's goin to the bottom
And she's goin down the drain
Said she wasn't big enough to carry it
(Chorus)
(She got to get behind the Mule
In the morning and plow
She got to get behind the Mule
In the morning and plow
She got to get behind the Mule
In the morning and plow
She got to get behind the Mule
In the morning and plow)
Choppity chop goes the axe in the woods
You gotta meet me by the fall down tree
Shovel of dirt upon a coffin lid
And I know they'll come lookin for me boys
And I know they'll come a-lookin for me
(Chorus)
Big Jack Earl was 8'1
He stood in the road and he cried
He couldn't make her love him
Couldn't make her stay
But tell the good Lord that he tried
(Chorus)
Dusty trail from Atchison to Placerville
On the wreck of the Weaverville stage
Beaula fired on Beatty for a lemonade
I was stirring my brandy with a nail boys
Stirring my brandy with a nail
(Chorus)
Well the rampaging sons of the widow James
Jack the cutter and the pock marked kid
Had to stand naked at the bottom
Of the cross
And tell the good lord what they did
Tell the good lord what they did
(Chorus)
Punctuated birds on the power line
In a Studebaker with the Birdie Joe Joaks
I'm diggin all the way to China
With a silver spoon
While the hangman fumbles with the noose, boys
The hangman fumbles with the noose
(Chorus)
Pin your ear to the wisdom post
Pin your eye to the line
Never let the weeds get higher
Than the garden
Always keep a sapphire in your mind
Always keep a diamond in your mind
(Chorus)

A fine student in one of my poetry classes wrote technical manuals for a living. Maybe that helped a little. I sure like his attitude.
Peter
p.s., no, his name was not Ambrose Monk.
