"June"

One day in English class
The time just wouldn't seem to pass
The end of the year
was very near
And then what did appear
To affirm our greatest fear
An assignment written on the board
It was an idea we all abhorred
As we all sat down
And our smiles turned to frowns
Mr. Lathrop ran in acting like a clown
Excited with what he had prepared
Not as if anyone really cared
As we sat through the lession
Mr. Lathrops obsession
With finishing the session
Soon became clear
Though we tried desperately to interfere
And the end of the period was near
Our pleas he refused to hear
Except for one shout that rang out
And drowned out all of the others
The desperate cry that infuriated the man
And despite his plans
He halted the lesson to remove one buffoon
For shouting aloud "It's June"
The classroom roared with laughter
Which one other would regret soon after
When another one, not quite a coward
Yelled out "Does that make you feel empowered?"
Disrespect he would not tolerate at all
He banished him to the hall
These days they would forever remember
Maybe when its December
And the time of the magical month June
Will seem to be coming soon
