I was asked by my english teacher to read a poem at my graduation. If anyone has an idea of a poem that deals with change, aging, maturing or moving on that would be suitable for this occasion please let me know! This needs to be a poem that students will understand when they first hear it and also on that the staff will appreciate. Thanks!
Today is my graduation day
My school years have all passed away
I will tell my old friends goodbye
I am happy but still I cry
I stand arrayed in my cap and gown
I wear a smile instead of a frown
I walk forward with a confident stride
I receive my diploma with youthful pride
I will miss my teachers and my school
And all those who helped me through
My wandering thoughts of by-gone years
Turn now to the future and a career
There is a Shel Silverstein Poem called "The Voice " that my son read at his graduation.
There is a voice inside of you
That whispers all day long
“I feel that this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong.”
No teacher, preacher, parent, friend
Or wise man can decide what’s right for you.
Just listen to the voice that speaks inside.
